Iron and oak wood is currently cheap at the marketplace, but the storage of your businesses is full to overflowing? Then you need this building: the warehouse!
The warehouse can function as the main hub of your own supply chain. This should prevent your businesses from running out of raw materials. But beware of burglars!

What would I do to protect my Warehouse?
Well...
To begin:
- an alarm to alert the authorities (can only be just by someone inside and is only effective if someone is around to react)
- better locks
- iron bars at the window
- reinforced doors
- an added doors made of iron bars
- a safe for the really important and expensive things
later:
- if the walls are made out wood exchange them to stone
- acquire a watch dog or two
- build in traps to capture, injure, slow down or to make noise (like a bucket with oil, trap wires with thorns or bells)
- separate partitions divided by stone walls or iron bars with locked doors
- employee some guards
that is all I can think of for now.
Id say torches, guards and better construction of the building itself.
But most important should be that you can see all those features you add to the building. Like the guards running around it, torches being set up at night and walls you changed from wood to stone.
Thats one of the features im missing in many many games. Being able to see your improvements
